The Georgia Southern University Men’s Soccer team defeated the Appalachian State Mountaineers 1-0 in Boone on Saturday night.

In the first of two away games in North Carolina, the Eagles’ goalkeeper Jack Falle was able to block nine shots on goal from the Mountaineers. But it was the freshman from Iceland who scored the goal that won the game for the Eagles. In the 31st minute of the game, Thor Sveinbjornsson scored a goal from the penalty spot. It was his second goal of the season.

Thor’s goal put the Eagles ahead by one point, leaving it up to Falle to prevent the Mountaineers from scoring. This was the third time in Falle’s soccer career that he has posted nine saves in a game, and the second time this season. This win for the Eagles puts them at 6-6 in the season.

Saturday night’s win was all too familiar; last year, the Eagles defeated the Mountaineers 1-0 in Statesboro.

On Tuesday night, the Eagles will take on the University of North Carolina Tar Heels in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels are 12-6 so far in their season with their most recent wins against North Carolina States and Boston College.

The Eagles last took on the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill in 2012 and were defeated 0-2.

Following their match against UNC, the Eagles will take on the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Highlanders in Statesboro on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.
