Photos and videos circulated on social media yesterday, showing a small car fire located near campus. The news started to spread on YikYak before spreading to Snapchat and Instagram. @barstoolsouthern shared a video, crediting it to Zachary Green-Jackson. The full video can be seen by clicking here.
Jennifer Wise, Chief Communications Officer, explained that the incident started after a driver noticed an engine issue. “University Police responded to an incident shortly before 8 a.m. today where a driver noticed an issue with their car’s throttle response, pulled over to check the issue, and saw smoke coming out from under the hood. A small fire had developed between the engine and the vehicle’s dash. Statesboro Fire also responded and extinguished the blaze. There were no injuries,” she explained.
This incident comes after a hectic weekend in Statesboro. On Aug. 28, a Statesboro teenager accidentally ran into the front entrance of Tropical Smoothie Café.
