George-Anne Staff: Tell me about your role with SGA.
Tyleah Clonts: “As of right now, my role in SGA is at-large senator. I represent a small organization of my choosing that I would like to be represented in SGA.”
George-Anne Staff: Why did you decide to run for an SGA position?
Tyleah Clonts: “I wanted to run because I had so many great leaders that taught me how to properly communicate, dress professionally, and how to voice my opinion without being a “bull-dozer”. Now being a part of the senate I want the new incoming members and freshmen to have that same desire to make a college career/impact in SGA like those before me.”
George-Anne Staff: What do you plan to do within your position?
Tyleah Clonts: “I plan to advocate for those who may not have the platform and the voice to advocate for themselves,” Clonts said. “Many people do not know that SGA holds senate meetings where anyone who has something they want to say, you can speak in front of the whole senate.”
George-Anne Staff: What do you want people to know about SGA?
Tyleah Clonts: “I want people to know that SGA is not just an organization that holds meetings and does nothing. We represent the student body on and off campus,” she said. “If you feel as though something is wrong or there is an issue within your campus or college, find out who is your college senator and email them and shoot them a text. We do more good than harm, sending a text can change things not just for you but for all students.”
George-Anne Staff: What can students expect from SGA next year?
Tyleah Clonts: “More SGA engagement with other organizations. More issues are being discussed and shared with the student body,” Clonts explained. “Most importantly, just members of the senate talking to other organization leaders about things they believe need to be changed to make it easier on them and other students on the campus.”
