Media outlets from the area, including Savannah’s WTOC channel 11, gathered at Forest Heights Country Club today to discuss the upcoming 35th annual Schenkel Invitational, which brings Statesboro, Ga. national recognition.

Men’s golf Head Coach Larry Mays, assistant Head Coach Carter Collins and senior captain Will Evans were also in attendance to discuss what this tournament means to the golf team and the Statesboro community.

“It’s really cool to see that Georgia Southern hosts this and puts this on and the community of Statesboro helps out and basically provides this for us,” Evans said.  “People from all over college golf they come here, they know our tournament, they know its really something special, so it’s something we hold our heads high on.”

The Schenkel Committee works hard every year to fill the field with the best golf teams and golfers in the country and this year is no exception.

According to the last NCAA team rankings by GolfStat, there will be five teams in the Top 25 competing in this nationally renowned tournament and another seven of the teams currently hold positions between 51 and 84 placing a good 86 percent of the field in the Nation’s Top 100.
