STATESBORO —The Georgia Southern men’s basketball team defeated Louisiana, 71-51, in the second game of a two-game home stand.

Fresh off a win against ULM, the Eagles looked to extend their winning streak to two games before heading back on the road. The game started off slow for the Eagles as they shot 38 percent from the field and 12.5 percent from 3-point range, but they only trailed by four entering halftime. 

In the second half, GS turned up the defense as they had two blocks and eight steals while also limiting the Ragin Cajuns to 21 points on 6 of 25 shooting as a team. Quan Jackson led the team with 5 steals. 

“I thought we had great defensive energy in the second half and we got a lot of steals and turnovers that led us to some good offense,” Head Coach Mark Byington said.

In the second half, GS shot 42 percent from the field as a team while outscoring the Ragin Cajuns 45 to 21 points. 

On offense, the team was led by Simeon Carter, Isaiah Crawley and Elijah McCadden who scored 11, and 13 respectively. Mccadden also grabbed six rebounds while dishing out five assists while Carter also grabbed nine rebounds.

With the victory, the Eagles move to 11-7 overall and 5-2 in Sun Belt play. The team is now tied for first in the conference and improve to 8-0 at home.
