Soccer: Eagles fall to Elon 3-2

The Georgia Southern University women’s soccer team lost to the Elon Pheonix 3-2 in a close match earlier tonight.

At the half, Elon was ahead 1-0 with eight shots total and two shots on goal. The Eagles’ ended the first half with four shots, 3 on goal.

Senior forward Alex Murphy got her fourth goal of the season only five minutes into the second half. Sophomore forward Nora El-Shami assisted Murphy on the goal.  Sophomore forward Caitlin Tongco added to the Eagles’ score with a high shot into the net.

Catherine Brinkman evened the score at two for the Pheonix and caused the game into overtime.  Olivia Mackey gave Elon the lead just three minutes into overtime.

The Eagles’ overall record is now 4-8-2 and 2-3-1 in the conference.

The Eagles  will honor their seniors Sunday before they face UNCG at 2 p.m.
