Preview: Baseball prepares to tackle busy week of play while looking to break two game loss streak

The Georgia Southern baseball team will be looking to break their two loss streak and will have ample opportunity to as they play Presbyterian College Tuesday, College of Charleston Wednesday and will cap the week of play with a series against rival Appalachian State.

GS (14-13, 5-4)

Coming off losing a series against conference opponent ULM, the Eagles are hoping to break a loss streak of two and improve both their overall and conference records.

As a team the Eagles are showing a batting average of .276 while notching 169 runs, 261 hits and 18 home runs off of 946 at-bats.

Leading GS on the bats is junior infielder Steven Curry. Curry shows for a .351 batting average as well as notching 20 runs and 33 hits off of 94 at-bats.

Pitching-wise we can expect to see junior pitcher Seth Shuman have some time on the mound as he has a 3.79 ERA while throwing for 58 strikeouts in the 38 innings he’s pitched on the season.

PC (11-17; 4-5)

PC is currently on a three game loss streak and be looking to break that as well as improving their overall record of 11-17 while taking on the Eagles.

On the bats the team averages a .250 batting average while logging 124 runs, 229 hits and nine home runs off of 917 at bats. Leading the Blue Hose on the bat is Jimmy Marcelli, averaging .333 on the bats, tallying 15 runs, 35 hits and one home run on 105 at-bits.

The Eagles can most likely expect to see Jackson Dean on the mound for the Blue Hose, as the redshirt-junior has logged a 4.09 ERA while showing for 21 strikeouts in the 33 innings he’s pitched on the season so far.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at J.I. Clements Stadium and the contest will be streamed on both True Blue TV and the Georgia Southern Sports Network.

COC (19-10; 4-2)

The Cougars have looked at a successful season so far as they’re showing for a five game win streak as well as a .655 winning percentage,

As a team COC is showing a batting average on .281 while tallying 177 runs 268 hits and 20 home runs off of 953 at-bats. Leading the Cougars is Logan McRaue with his .330 batting average while hitting three home runs, 22 runs and 34 hits off of his 103 at-bats,

It can be assumed the Eagles will face off against pitcher Griffin McLarty who has seen the mound for 46.1 innings and has logged 53 strikeouts as well as only allowing 29 hits and 13 runs, all while showing for a 1.55 ERA.

The Eagles will match up against COC in Savannah, Georgia on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Grayson Stadium. The game will be streamed on the Georgia Southern Sports Network. Students can sign up to ride to the game from either Statesboro campus or Armstrong campus if they so desire to.

App State (11-15; 4-5)

The Eagles will conclude their weekend play while taking on the Mountaineers who will be looking to extend their win streak as well as claiming a conference victory over their long-time rival.

App State averages .258 on the bats as a team while collecting 144 runs, 223 hits and 13 home runs on their 866 at-bats. Leading for the Mountaineers is Luke Drumheller who shows for a .409 batting average, notching one home run, 13 total runs and 38 hits off his 93 at-bats.

The Eagles should prepare to see Will Sprinkle on the mound at some point over the course of the weekend as the sophomore pitcher as seen the mound for 40.2 innings while logging 21 strikeouts.

The Eagles will be traveling to take on the Mountaineers in a weekend long series, with Friday’s game set to start at 6 p.m., Saturday’s set for 1 p.m., and Sunday’s set for noon. All three games will be streamed on the Georgia Southern Sports Network.
