GS Football Season Opener Press Conference

New Head Coach, Clay Helton, opened the pre-game press conference by expressing his excitement about coaching his first football game under Georgia Southern.

  • “I think we’re all itching to get on the field and see what our hard work looks like,” stated Helton. “We want to stay in the moment and try to go 1-0 each and every week”.
  • This will be Georgia Southern and Morgan State’s first football match against each other.

What’s new: Jalen White, Jr. and Running back along with Justin Eliis, a 6th year Defensive Line, expressed their excitement to show what the team has been working on since January throughout football camp and spring ball.

  • Justin Ellis, who came back for his 6th year expressed that he had to come for his last season. “Last year could have been my last year but I had to come back and make it right,” said Ellis.
  • Georgia Southern has won 14 of its past 15 home openers and is 31-7-1 all-time in-home openers (31-6 at Paulson Stadium). The last home opener the Eagles lost was in 2017 against Arkansas State.

What’s next: The ‘Night of Champions’ game will start at 6pm on Saturday September 3rd and will be hosted at Paulson stadium.
Students will be able to attend all homes games for free.
