A whodunnit production full of suspense, biting comedy, and colorful characters. The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 is an upcoming production from the Armstrong Theater Department. An Armstrong Alumni has returned to campus to direct the play.

“It’s no secret that this production means a lot to me,” Travis wrote. “I graduated from this very same program almost ten years ago.”

Now, Spangenburg has the chance to play a direct role in the magic he experienced in his formative years as an actor and aspiring director.

“The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 sits at the crossroads of two of my favorite genres: a classic Agatha Christie murder mystery and a madcap, zany farce,” Travis stated.

“You’ve got all the intrigue, the multiple viable suspects, and the conflict, but it’s also thrown together with all this clever wordplay, sight gags, and crazy characters.”

“I can’t say enough about this cast, really,” he continues. “Due to some scheduling requirements, we had to do this thing at a really quick pace and these talented actors have all been putting a ton of work into making sure we had something special long before Opening Night.”

Some familiar faces will once again take the stage for this show. Some of the cast includes The Inkwell’s very own Gabby Riley, Hannah Dodson- who fabulously directed last Spring’s production of ‘Time Flies,’ Jerry Miller- who notably starred in ‘Time Flies,’ and the ever astonishing Ava Mueller-who’s presence on the stage is hard to ignore.

“Ava Mueller, in particular, as the eccentric owner of the mansion and mastermind of the evening, Elsa Von Grossenkneuten, is just absolutely insane in all the best ways and you’ll love every second she’s on the stage.”
