Eagles move up 7-1 in the season after back to back wins

GS Women’s basketball advances 7-1 in the season after back to back wins, the eagles faced off against Chicago State and Detroit Mercy this past week winning both games extending their winning streak to five. 

 

GSWBB earned its fourth straight win on Friday, defeating Chicago State by a 93-71 score in its annual Kids Day Field Trip Game, which brought in  2,612 fans to Hanner Fieldhouse in Statesboro.

  • Chicago State took the lead 18-17 going into the 2nd quarter but the Eagles took the lead going halftime, 39-34 doubling the lead after Terren Ward scored 7 points in the beginning of the 3rd. 
  • Le’Andrea Gillis hit back-to-back threes at the end of the period to extend the lead to 21, 67-46, and put the game out of reach. 
  • Game Stats:
  • Ward and Lydia Freeman each scored 15 points 
  • Gillis and Diamond Stokes ended the game with 11 points each
  • Shy Booker added 10 points on a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor

 

 GSWBB earned its 2nd win of the week after beating Detroit Mercy 82-79 in overtime. Georgia Southern had a 10-point lead, 68-58, with 6:07 remaining but the Titans held the Eagles to just one field goal the rest of regulation. 

  • DM player Myonna Hooper scored three-pointer with 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter tying the game and taking it to OT
  • During OT, the Eagles kept a two-point lead, 81-79, with less than 15 seconds left. Detroit Mercy missed a possible game-winning three with three seconds left and the Eagles’ Eden Johnson secured the rebound to preserve the win.
  • Game Stats: 
  • Four Eagles reached double figures in the contest, led by Terren Ward’s double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. 
  • Taya Gibson and Eden Johnson had 13 points apiece
  •  Constance Thomas added 10 points.
  • The Eagles play again against College of Charleston on Dec.16 which will be their last regular season game.
