Women’s basketball looks for conference win in the Carolinas

Andrew Weimer

Following a tough stretch as of late, the women’s basketball team looks forward to finding their first conference win against two Sun Belt opponents. Both games will be played away from home, as they play Coastal Carolina on Thursday and Appalachian State on Saturday. Here is what to expect from both teams:

Coastal Carolina (8-7;2-2)

The Chanticleers have now won five straight games at home, proving to be a tough opponent for a Georgia Southern University team that has three straight away losses. During these games, Coastal Carolina has been able to put up 71.2 points per game, compared to a Georgia Southern team that has given up 74 points per game over the past five games.

In their last game, the Eagles proved to be able to hold their own on defense, however, their offense struggled. The key to win this game will be to start off hot on offense and hope that their defense, who have played well recently, will be able to play like they have in the past.

Appalachian State (3-12;1-3)

App State has yet to win a home game, putting up an 0-6 home record so far this season. GS has one away win, defeating South Carolina State 61-58 back in November.

The Mountaineers, despite their record, have a solid defense, only giving up an impressive 67 points per game over their season thus far. Therefore, in order for GS to win this game, it would be beneficial to have a hot start on offense and rely on their steady defense to hold App State’s shaky offense.
