When you first step into college, everything can be both exciting and overwhelming. It’s a new chapter in your life, with new faces all around, unfamiliar buildings, and for many, the first time living away from home. In all this chaos, one of the best ways to meet, join and build your friend circle is attending campus events. The Eagle Experience is a collection of events throughout the month of August to help new students acclimate to the campus and meet new people.
Below, you will find the Eagle Experience events with the date and details.
- Aug. 8-9: Operation Move In – Georgia Southern is ready to welcome new students as well as returning students to the campus residence halls. You will have to book a time slot for collecting keys, and friendly volunteers will be present to help with the move-in process. New neighbors, student assistants, and Resident Advisors will be around, making it the perfect time to say hi!
- Aug. 9: First Flight – Join the Georgia Southern campus community at Paulson Stadium for the first flight of the semester! This is usually hosted by campus faculty and staff to show the football traditions, music, and how to survive the first year tips by SOAR leaders. It is one of the best times to interact with people and make new friends.
- Aug. 10: CRI Sunday Funday – Campus Recreation and Intramurals (CRI) Sunday Funday is the gateway to free food, games, prizes and giveaways. The Recreation Activity Center (RAC) is an absolute fun station for everyone at Georgia Southern. This event showcases the gym, swimming pools, group fitness classes, the rock climbing wall and more!
- Aug. 12: Conversation with Professors – This is a mandatory event for incoming freshmen. This is held the day before classes start, and details on your specific time and location can be found on WINGS. These professors explain the terminology and workings of the drop/add period and withdrawal. Academic resources for students are discussed that might help them in their later years. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions, always remember- the more clarity you have now, the easier it will be to navigate your first semester.
- Aug. 12: New Student Convocation – All incoming freshmen are expected to attend New Student Convocation, which is held at Hanner Fieldhouse. This marks the official beginning of the new academic year!
