If campus seems busier than usual, it’s because Sept. 12-14 is the Fall Family Weekend for Georgia Southern. Parents are returning to campus for a fun weekend to reconnect with their students. Freshmen and Seniors alike have a lot to look forward to, especially because the first home football game will be on Sept. 13 at Paulson Stadium.
Jake Bernstein, a GS student, plans to show his parents the best spots to eat around Statesboro. “Go around to like local restaurants, I really like Del Sur, so probably go out to eat with them,” he said. Statesboro has various restaurants to choose from, so eating out is a solid parents’ weekend plan. Outside of dinner, Statesboro has candy stores, ice cream, shops, bakeries, and more when it comes to grabbing a quick bite. Bernstein also suggested, “Maybe see a movie…” He explained that he’s an avid visitor of our local AMC, another option for what to do during parents’ weekend. Other local entertainment options could include the Center for Wildlife Education, Splash in the Boro, the Georgia Southern Museum, the Statesboro Mall, and more. There is no lack of things to explore on and off campus.
Another student, Malik Franklin, was stoked for the upcoming game. “We plan to go to the football game this weekend. My parents are really into college football, and we think it’d be a great time!” This weekend’s game is the perfect way for parents to see Georgia Southern’s school spirit, not only see it but be a part of it. The game is this Saturday at 7 p.m. against Jacksonville State University. Franklin also added, “We’ll also hit up the Dining Hall, of course.” Another on-campus attraction to give parents a taste of the Eagle lifestyle.
Statesboro has plenty of things to do to entertain your family. Give them a real look at (Georgia) Southern hospitality–whether you’re bringing your family or not.
