Homecoming season is here again! On Monday, Oct. 13, festivities kicked off with the annual combined Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair and Georgia Southern Homecoming Parade.
The parade was headed by Georgia Southern’s ROTC cadets. They were followed by the Trail Life troop from the First Baptist Church of Statesboro, who carried the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair Parade banner.
After the parade’s Grand Marshall, members of the Kiwanis Club, and Statesboro Mayor Johnathan McCollar, the Homecoming portion of the parade began. GSU Cheerleaders preceded the Southern Pride Marching Band as they and onlookers chanted along with the fight song, “Georgia Southern Eagles! Fight, fight fight!”
Then came the several sororities and fraternities with their delegates for the Homecoming court. Students came dressed in Hawaiian shirts and leis, well-suited for this year’s Homecoming theme of “Eagle Island.”
Representatives of the Office of Student Activities, the Gretch School of Music, and the Georgia Southern Libraries also marched along the parade route.
The parade began at Morris Bank and traveled the length of Main Street before ending at the intersection of Fair Road and Tillman Road.
The week’s celebrations will culminate in the Homecoming concert on Friday at the Hill and the Homecoming game against Georgia State on Saturday.
