Hundreds of Georgia Southern University students are preparing to present original research during the annual GS4 Symposium, one of the university’s largest undergraduate research events.
The Georgia Southern Student Scholar Symposium, commonly known as GS4, brings together undergraduate and graduate researchers from across disciplines to showcase work completed over the past year.
The event, typically held during National Research Week in April, gives students experience presenting in a professional conference-style setting. Organizers say participation has grown in recent years, with more than 250 students presenting across both campuses.
Dr. Landage, the event’s organizer, said the symposium helps students recognize the value of their work.
“They realize that whatever they’re doing for the community or for the greater good of the world is accepted,” Landage said. “People are willing to hear them, and they are able to publish their work. It’s more than just a presentation.”
For many Georgia Southern students, GS4 serves as a first step into professional research and public presentation.
The GS4 Symposium will take place on April 21 at the Armstrong Campus Student Union and on April 23 at the Statesboro Campus Russell Union. The event is open to the campus community. More information can be found here.
