George-Anne Staff: Tell me about your role with SGA?
Natassia Mason: “I am a senator at large, which essentially means that I kind of overlook the entire student body, so I’m not necessarily assigned to a specific college,” Mason said.
Mason was recently sworn in to serve as an Honors College Senator for the 2026-2027 school year.
George-Anne Staff: Why did you decide to run for an SGA position?
Natassia Mason: “Back in my freshman year, when I first decided to run, I decided I really wanted to see what goes into the implementation process of successful initiatives on campus,” Mason said. “I think that working with other people who are in different spaces than your own and being able to collaborate with them to make the university a better place is something I have always really enjoyed.”
George-Anne Staff: What do you plan to do within your position?
Natassia Mason: “In this upcoming year, specifically looking at the Honors College, I really look forward to meeting with my Deans and kind of telling them what’s been going on in the Honors College and give feedback.”
George-Anne Staff: What do you want people to know about SGA?
Natassia Mason: “I want people to know that it is a forum that can actively make change. I want people to not be afraid to be honest and seek out help for any problems. We are the Liaisons between administrative positions, such as the president,” she explained. “We are those representatives of the student body who can make the actual change, and so I think personally I want to see a space in which students are actively engaging with us and vice versa to be able to promote new initiatives or expanding already existing programs to better.”
George-Anne Staff: What can students expect from SGA next year?
Natassia Mason: “We have a completely new cabinet, so it is going to be very different proceedings. We have our first meeting next Monday, we’ll be able to kind of see the direction that the executive board is trying to make,” Mason said. “They’ve already begun to propose some new legislation that will hopefully better the experience of the student body. So I think it’s always been a very specific, dedicated focus of the executive board, but we also have a clean slate, and so that’s going to be interesting to see some upcoming changes that will be able to witness in the new Academic Year. But as a senator, I plan to ensure that it’s a positive experience, and I will make sure that things don’t get passed or things don’t get proposed that seek to negatively impact the student body.”
George-Anne Staff: Is there anything else you want to add?
Natassia Mason: “Be sure to look out for me and my co-representatives, because we do really intend to personally ensure that the experience of every student is positive.”
