Georgia Southern drops third straight game

Georgia Tech got off to an explosive start scoring 21 points in the first quarter, taking down Georgia Southern with a final score of 35-24.

Tech Quarterback Justin Thomas accumulated 250 yards of total offense and three touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets. GS Quarterback Kevin Ellison threw for 102 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Favian Upshaw added another 66 yards in the air and 41 yards on the ground. Ellison’s solo touchdown pass went to BJ Johnson III. That touchdown is Johnson’s first touchdown on the season and it is his since 2014.

Southern was unable to limit the explosive plays of the GT offense. In the first 11 plays of the game Tech scored three touchdowns and accrued over 200 yards. GS leading tackler Ironhead Gallon recorded 10 tackles and a tackle for a loss. GT gained 265 yards on the ground and Southern could not find an answer to stop the running attack Thomas and Dedrick Mills.

L. A. Ramsby led the Eagles with two touchdowns on the ground. It seemed as if every time GS found themselves on the goal line they handed the ball to Ramsby and he punched it in. Matt Breida picked up 58 yards while averaging 4.5 yards per carry. Breida has struggled finding the end zone this season. This is the fifth straight game the opponent has kept Breida from scoring a rushing touchdown. We are halfway through the college football season and Breida ran for 337 yards and one touchdown.

The next game for GS is a Sun Belt matchup on the road against New Mexico State next Saturday. This game will wrap up the Eagles long 4-game road trip.
