Georgia Southern forward Jennifer Wittick was named to the Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference team before the beginning of the 2016-17 regular season. Last season Wittick led the Eagles with 11 goals.

“It feels good to be recognized for all of the hard work that I put in. At the end of the day I just want to do anything that will get us more wins,” Wittick said.

Wittick is one of two players selected to the Preseason All-Conference team that was not named to the All-Conference team after the 2015 season. She is the only player on the GS women’s soccer team selected for this honor.

Being a senior, Wittick is finding herself acting as a mentor for some of the younger players on the team. Her veteran leadership and experience has given her a platform as a leader.

“It seems as if we have a whole new team this year. We have new players from all around the country and all around the world. We have new players from Colombia, Sweden, and Norway. It’s great knowing me and some of the other seniors on the team can be seen as leaders,” Wittick said.

Georgia Southern has begun with a slow start, but they are looking to turn it around this weekend at home against the University of North Florida and UNC Charlotte.
