RumRunners mediation debate cancelled

Due to the manner of applicant opinions, the Mock Mediation Club has decided to cancel its mediation trial on the Rum Runners Plantation Room sign.

“It was a great opportunity for Mock Mediation to get out there and voice students opinions. It’s sad that it had to be cancelled but it’s a way to grow and do better in the future,” Jessica Shanken, Mock Mediation Club public relations chair and sophomore international studies major, said.

All students who submitted applications had the same opinion, leaving the necessary second side with empty seats. Students who wished to participate in the trial were all against the sign RumRunners had established.

Shanken said, “We’re really looking forward to doing more to voice student opinions on issues like the smoking ban or dining services and give them a way to express their views in a way other than posting on Facebook or Twitter.”
