Welcome back to our guide to the 2016 presidential candidates. We created this weekly guide as a way for you to quickly get the most necessary information about each candidate and his/her plans so that when you are watching the debate, you can see these individuals in a simple and understandable way. This week, we are discussing Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal, and Carly Fiorina.

Mike Huckabee

“The Multitasker”

Political Party: Republican
giphy (2)

The Lowdown: Apparently, being a talk show host, religious leader, author, bass guitarist, weight loss fanatic, and governor wasn’t enough. Mike Huckabee, one of the 2016 presidential candidates, advocates a balanced federal budget. Being a gun owner, as president, he would allow concealed carry. He wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act and instead, focus on families needing assistance with outstanding medical bills and set up a way for the government to assist. Instead of giving illegal immigrants a path to citizenship like many other candidates plan to do, Huckabee wants to give illegal immigrants the chance to self deport within a time limit. For taxes, he wants to eliminate income tax and the IRS and replace it with a national sales tax. He is extremely opposed to abortion and same-sex marriage and wants to change those laws entirely as well.
If He was in college: He would be the friend that can’t miss out on anything. If everyone would be going somewhere, he would have to be there no matter what it takes. Also, he would be the guy that goes out to the bars and starts conversations with people about topics they don’t want to think about like school and their future… or maybe even their health.
If he was a drink: a virgin daiquiri (he says he does not drink)

Bobby Jindal

“The Proactive Planner”

Political Party: Republican
giphy (1)

The Lowdown: Bobby Jindal is the youngest runner in the 2016 presidential race. The candidate has already outlined many specific plans of his, including replacing Obamacare with his proposal, “America Next.” Central to his plan, Jindal wants to balance the federal budget and make military and defense spending a priority. He has a new, very distinct plan for how to address climate change that includes eliminating several of the government’s current rules. Jindal, who is the son of Indian immigrants, plans to provide a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants while expanding legal immigration. He is very strong about his anti-gay-marriage stance and is a strong supporter of Israel.
If he was in college: He would be the person in your class that always knows the semester schedule because he writes it all out in his agenda during syllabus week. If he was in a fraternity, he would have a council position that requires a lot of organization and planning, like social chair.
If he was a drink: Bud Light (just a casual guy, doing his thing but not getting too crazy)

Carly Fiorina

“The Boss Lady”

Political Party: Republican
giphy

The Lowdown: Carly Fiorina is known among the business world as the first woman to lead a Fortune 50 company. Leading Hewlett-Packard (HP), Carly is said to have been a problem-solver. Gun access is an important right to her. She wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act and increase health insurance competition. Regarding immigration, Fiorina does not agree with giving a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, however, supports the DREAM Act, which would make an exception for children who were brought to the U.S. illegally. She wants to support Israel by ending the nuclear talks and she wants to send more weapons to the Kurds fighting the Islamic State. She is involved with other organizations and places much emphasis on civil rights such as those for women.
If she were in college: She would be the girl that has a leadership position in everything. If she were in a sorority or organization, she would be the one running for Homecoming Queen. It wouldn’t be a surprise if she would also be the president of SGA or something similar.
If she was a drink: Gin and Tonic (CEO status)
