Engineering building structure set to be worked on through November, fully completed by 2020

STATESBORO — The new engineering and research building on the corner of Akins Blvd. and Forest Drive is close to having the steel structure completed. 

Breaking ground in December, the building has taken shape and is getting worked on daily.

“The construction for the Engineering and Research Building is underway with ongoing steel erection,” said Matthew Shingler, director of facilities planning, design & construction. “The structural steel erection is scheduled to be ongoing through the middle of November 2019.

Former Georgia governor Nathan Deal included the $49.9 million fee in the FY19 state budget. The building is intended for engineering and manufacturing classes and will feature 21 instructional research labs and 25 academic learning spaces.

Shingler said the building construction is scheduled to be fully completed Nov. 2020.
