The Miss Purple Essence Scholarship Pageant is run by the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and the Zeta Delta Delta Chapter here at Georgia Southern University. They are at the Russell Union Rotunda today until 2 p.m.

The pageant is a scholarship pageant where the winners will receive a $750 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd and $250 for 3rd. An information session will be held today November 4th in room 1118 of the Hollis Building at 8:11 p.m.

Ashley Mattison, member of the 2014 Miss Purple Essence Pageant Royal Court, participated in the last pageant and enjoyed the experience of sharing her ideas with the GSU community.

“My platform was to raise awareness about the racial inequality on campus,” Mattison said. “Although I did not win the title I was able to get the idea out there as I promoted my platform to get people thinking because it is an issue here at Georgia Southern. So if you have something you care about that’s passionate to you I recommend that you do this pageant.”
