Zoom outage affecting GS faculty and students

STATESBORO — Zoom is experiencing global outages, causing users to not be able to log in on the website and connect to the server.

The outages were first reported early Monday morning, around 7:40, according to the outage monitoring website Downdetector.

Georgia Southern sent an email regarding the situation, stating that this may cause problems when faculty and students are trying to access Zoom for meetings and classes.

The Zoom app does still appear to be functional. Faculty and students can sign in on the Zoom app with their GS email addresses, according to the email.

“We will provide updates as soon as Zoom has resolved the issues that they are currently experiencing,” GS said in the email.

Zoom said in a statement, “We have received reports of users being unable to visit the Zoom website (zoom.us) and unable to start and join Zoom Meetings and Webinars. We are currently investigating and will provide updates as we have them.”

This is an active story. The George-Anne will continue to monitor the situation.
