The Statesboro Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that took place at Sagebrush Apartments at approximately 11:50 p.m. on Monday.

The three suspects remain unidentified and arrests have not yet been made.

Madison Warren, community information specialist for Statesboro PD, provided information on how to avoid similar situations.

Safety tips

Warren said one way to avoid falling victim to robberies is to always make sure all doors are locked, including vehicles.

“Only unlock what doors you need on your vehicle, so if you’re only getting in through the front door, only unlock the front door,” Warren said.

Another way to prevent robberies is to avoid answering the door to strangers while home alone.

“If you encounter a suspicious person, like someone knocking on your door that you don’t know or aren’t expecting and you don’t feel safe, you can always call Statesboro Police Department or 911 if it’s an urgent emergency,” Warren said.

Warren said it is also important to be aware of what is going on around you and try to avoid being alone.

“If you feel like you’re being followed or someone is taking an unneeded interest in you, if you can get to a public building of some type you can call 911 there,” Warren said. “You’re much less likely to be a victim if you’re around other people.”

Any suspicious behavior should be reported to Statesboro PD at (912) 764-9911 or Georgia Southern PD at (912) 478-5234.
