Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane early Wednesday.

What’s next: The storm is projected to travel across Florida and turn towards Savannah around 2 AM on Thursday.

Why it matters: GS sent out an Eagle Alert on Wednesday evening detailing how the storm will affect classes on Thursday and Friday.

  • “The University is moving all classes online and closing its campuses  due to Hurricane Ian starting at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday Sept. 29,” said GS, per the alert. “All in person events are canceled Thursday afternoon and evening, and all day Friday and until officials can ensure campuses are safe.”
  • Georgia Southern students are advised to continue checking their Eagle Alerts and University emails for further updates concerning Hurricane Ian.
