All three suspects in custody following Southern Courtyard armed robbery

GS University Police have all three suspects in custody from Saturday’s armed robbery at Southern Courtyard on the Statesboro campus.

What’s new: Two juveniles and one 17-year-old were arrested. 

  • Following the incident, one suspect was found near Chandler Road and was quickly taken into custody.
  • The second suspect was arrested near University Pointe Apartments later that night.
  • Monday afternoon, a warrant was issued for the third suspect’s arrest and he was later found. 
  • “None of the suspects in this case are Georgia Southern students, and no injuries were reported,” said GS Communications, per an email update.

What’s next: GS communications also issued a list of safety tips for students following Saturday’s incident.

  • Walk in groups of two or more, especially at night.
  • Never travel through dark or poorly lit areas.
  • Always lock your doors, exterior and bedroom, when you leave, and never let anyone in behind you as you enter a residence hall guarded by a key entry.
