The annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event will take place on Georgia Southern University’s Statesboro campus April 3 at the Rotunda.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a playful but powerful opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community about the causes, affects and solutions to men’s sexualized violence against women.

The award-winning program was created in 2001 by Frank Barid who said on his website that the movement is also for men who want to end violence against the women they care about.

“Violence against women does not just affect women,” Barid said. “Men are hurt and angered when women they care about are raped. Men are hurt and angered when they try to develop relationships with women in an atmosphere of fear and mistrust and blame. And the same violence that targets women also targets men because rape isn’t about sex, its about power, control and violence.”

Registration costs are $10 for students and $20 for non-students. Participants will receive a t-shirt and male walkers will receive heels for the march.

Check-in/registration begins at 3:30 p.m. The walk starts at 5 p.m. and expected to last until 6:30 p.m.

Pre-registration can be done on the GS Wellness web page.
