Lake Ruby remains empty as construction continues with no estimated date for refilling.

Three ponds on the Georgia Southern University campus were drained last winter break with an expected completion date in late January through early February. The pond in front of the Nursing and Education buildings is currently full and Lake Wells is partially full however, Lake Ruby remains empty.

“We anticipated being finished with the work by March 11”, Matthew Shingler, Director of Facilities Planning, Design and Construction, said. “Once all excavation and the site work is complete, we will begin to refill the lake.”

An email from Director of Communications Jennifer Wise said the construction has been delayed mainly due to weather.

Wise added that a smaller lake is expected to be refilled this weekend. Wise did not specify which lake would be refilled.

Wise was asked whether the ongoing construction has negatively impacted the ponds’ wildlife but did not know the answer at the time.
