Statesboro receives smoke from North GA wildfires

Luke Pashke

Due to the drought, wildfires have been sprouting up all across North Georgia in recent weeks. The Rough Ride fire is the largest of the wildfires in the area and has been aflame for nearly an entire month.

During this month, the Rough Ride fire has consumed nearly 20,000 acres of land while the Rock Mountain fire, the smallest wildfire in the area, consumed almost 5,000 acres. This mass burning throughout the northern region of state is even having an impact in far-away Statesboro.

Local folks have been reporting an abnormal amount of smoke in the air in recent weeks. This is most likely due to winds carrying the wildfires’ smoke across the state as the wildfires continue in the north.
