After a heartbreaking loss in one of their best performances of the season on Thursday, the Georgia Southern Lady Eagles battled with South Alabama to try and snap an 11 game losing streak. The senior night matchup ended with the Jaguars on top, 80-63.

Senior guard Anna Claire Knight led her team valiantly through the first half and was rewarded with an 18-12 lead less than ten minutes into the contest. Sophomore Angel McGowan knocked down a three to extend their lead. The Jaguars appeared to be one step behind for the entirety of the first half. After allowing the Eagles to pull away, they fought their way to a 26-22 deficit. Things remained tight for both teams for the rest of the half. Junior forward Patrice Butler finished the half with 12 points, and her team led the Jaguars 33-29.

The second half the Jaguars came out fresh and ready to play. They quickly tied it up then took the lead after a long three pointer. McGowan nailed another three pointer followed by Butler hitting two at the free throw line to cut the deficit to 48-44. Both teams were playing physical and clean basketball, but the Jaguars began slowing pulling away.  As the clock ticked below ten minutes remaining, the Lady Eagles were behind 60-46.

South Alabama kept pressing on the gas as they drained a three to take a 19 point lead. Butler and Eagle guard Alexis Sams hit back to back three pointers to cut down the lead. Despite attempts to battle back, any progress they made would be negated almost immediately. The Jaguars would hold onto their big lead and leave with a victory, 80-63.
