The Georgia Southern men’s basketball team defeated Arkansas State on the road behind performances from several Eagle seniors.

“The first ten minutes of the game we were locked in defensively and that got us started well,” Head Coach Mark Byington said in a news release. “Jake Allsmiller‘s shot on the first possession gave us confidence and Jelani Hewitt was a great leader for us tonight.”

The Eagles led the Red Wolves 41-26 at the half and never looked back. Senior Jelani Hewitt led the team in scoring with 18 points. Senior Curtis Diamond was second on the team with 12, with senior Angel Matias and redshirt senior Eric Ferguson each scoring 11 points.

The win improved the Eagles’ record to 2-1 in the Sun Belt and 9-3 overall.

Georgia Southern will continue on the road this weekend as the Eagles will take on South Alabama in Mobile, Ala., on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
