Eagles sweep doubleheader

The dominance of the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore continued today as Georgia

Southern University won both games of the double-header.

The first game started modestly enough, with the Eagles (6-1) ahead 4-3 after the third inning.

But five unanswered runs over the next four innings spelled defeat for the Hawks. GSU won 9-3.

Junior catcher Chase Griffin was the MVP of the game going 3-5 with four RBI and two runs.

Freshman first-baseman Ryan Cleveland was 2-3 with three RBI.

Game two wasn’t as close; in fact, it was almost over before it began.

Six runs were scored by GSU in the first inning – four of them coming off the bat of senior

outfielder Stryker Brown. Brown hit his third homerun of the season on a high-flying ball that

carried just far enough over the fence to pat the very base of the foul pole in right field for a

grand slam.

After that, the rest of the game was more of a formality.

The Eagles won 10-1 and improved their record to 6-1 with the two wins today. The team will

look to sweep the Hawks as they face UMES one last time tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
