Eagles fall to Mountaineers

In an overtime game against Appalachian State University, Georgia Southern University’s men’s basketball team lost 64-62.

The Mountaineers had the lead over the Eagles for the majority of the game, but the Eagles stayed in the game all the way up until the very last seconds of regulation. In those final seconds, senior guard C.J. Reed shot and made a three point shot to tie up the ball game and take it in to overtime.

During overtime, both teams struggled with making shots but ASU out scored the Eagles. Leading the Eagles throughout this game was Reed with 16 points, nine rebounds, five assists, three steals, and one block. Also leading scorers for the Eagles were freshman guard Cleon Roberts and junior forward both with 10 points.

The Eagles struggled to gain the lead during regulation time of this game from beginning to end. Although they weren’t able to take the lead, the Eagles had 18 offensive rebounds and scored only two less points than the Mountaineers.

On defense, the Eagles forced the Mountaineers to have 17 turnovers and also had a total of 26 defensive rebounds collectively. Collectively, they also had 11 steals from ASU.

GSU will be on the road again on Saturday, Jan. 26 to play Western Carolina University and Thursday, Jan. 31 to play Furman University.
