The Georgia Southern softball team split a two game series against conference opponent University of Louisiana-Monroe on the road and broke a six game losing streak this weekend.

With Sunday’s game being cancelled due to weather, GS went 1-1 on Friday night in a doubleheader in Monroe. The first game was a close loss, ending 14-13.

Thanks to senior shortstop Macy Coleman’s 3 RBI, GS built an early 4-0 lead, but ULM came back and scored 13 runs in four innings. GS stayed calm and confident and cut the deficit down to one.

Senior catcher/infielder Logan Harrell hit her tenth home run of the season, while senior infielder Hannah Farrell hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to tie the game.

ULM made their game winning run with a hit by senior infielder Bailey Thibodeaux on an Eagle error.

Freshman Shelby Barfield pitched for the majority of the game, but was eventually relieved by senior Kaylee Ramos and sophomore Rylee Waldrep.

In the second game of the night, GS redeemed themselves and took down the Warhawks 9-1 in five innings.

GS took an early lead, due to two home runs in the first two innings from freshman pitcher Jess Mazur and first basemen Faith Shirley. This was Mazur’s first home run of her collegiate career.

An abundance of offensive efficiency led the Eagles to the victory, with help from a strong performance from freshman pitcher Ashleigh Morton. She held ULM to two hits and one run with one walk.

GS improves to 17-19 and 4-10 in the conference. They will play at home on Wednesday in a non-conference match against the College of Charleston, and continue in the race for the Sun Belt Tournament this weekend in a three game series against Troy University.
