Weekend of Jan.31: Here’s what you missed in Georgia Southern Athletics

Here’s what you missed this weekend in Georgia Southern Athletics…
Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball team traveled to App State on February 1st to play a Sun Belt Conference game. The ladies faced an impressive App State side but lost 83-75. Barber finished the game with 19 points and eight rebounds, reaching double figures in the Sun Belt for the sixth time this season.
What’s next?
The next game for the women’s team will be against Little Rock on Thursday at home at 6:30 p.m. for another Sun Belt Conference game.
Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball team played South Alabama on Saturday at Hanner Fieldhouse. The Eagles trailed by 13 points in the first half and eventually tied the game but were beaten by 10 points in the last few possessions.
What’s next?
The men will get on the road, going to ULM Thursday and Louisiana Saturday. Both games will start at 8 p.m. and will be available on ESPN+.
Men’s Golf
This weekend, the men’s golf team started the GS Individual Collegiate at their home course. The course played tough on Sunday with an average score of 76.65 in the first two rounds. The course is known to be a challenge and the team will wrap up play on Monday.
What’s next?
The team will travel to the University of Florida next weekend to compete in the Gator Invitational.
Men’s Tennis
The men’s tennis team hosted a successful doubleheader on Friday at their home space, the Wallis Tennis Center. The Eagles beat Gardner Webb, 4-3, and South Carolina State 4-0. Single wins by Valentin Dun and Alexandros Roumpis help to keep the team undefeated at home this season.
What’s next?
The men’s tennis team will be home for three more matches where they play Kennesaw State and South Carolina Upstate this weekend.
Women’s Tennis
The women’s tennis team traveled to Orlando to face No. 18 ranked Texas A&M. The team did not get a win in doubles or singles, but Paula Boixader did well and fought hard in the number one singles position against Texas A&M.
What’s next?
The women’s tennis team will travel Saturday to DeLand, Florida where they will face Stetson at 10 a.m.
Track & Field/ Cross Country
The GS track and Field team returned to the University of South Carolina for another meet. In sprints, Zykeria Williams placed third and Aris Hubbard eighth in the 60m dash qualifying round. Ayikoru placed ninth in the 400m with a new PR of 55.46, Ellunde Montgomery placed 19th of 73 in the 800m, and Williams who is the only hurdler, turned in an 8:88 in the 60m hurdle preliminaries. For distance, Nagwandala, who broke the GS record in her last trip to Carolina, placed fifth for the 5000m and Mattie Harris placed 26th in the 3000m. Meagan Lynch took eighth and Jakeeyah Seymour placed 12th out of 50 jumpers. Throws placed Siddeeqa Abdurraham 14th in the weight throw and Osjalee Glenn 20th in shotput for the Eagles.
What’s next?
The Eagles get a week to rest then head to Birmingham, Alabama for its final regular season meet at the Samford Invite on Feb. 14.
