Opening weekend ended on a high note for the Georgia Southern University baseball

team as they defeated University of Georgia 18-4 in the rubber match game, to take

the weekend series 2-1.

Both teams went quietly for the first two innings of the game, however in the third

inning GSU had an offensive surge that saw them plate 11 runs on 10 hits including a

two run homerun from junior right fielder Aaron Mizell.

Sophomore pitcher Jason Richman got the win after pitching three innings and

allowing two earned runs and four strikeouts.

Mizell would come back in the fifth inning and put a second one out this time a solo

homerun in lieu to a four run inning for GSU.

This is the second straight year that the Eagles have opened against UGA and

likewise the second straight year that they have also won the series.

GSU looks to continue its early success with in state teams as they take on The

Georgia Institute of Technology in the 2014 home opener on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
