Eagles have no trouble flying through the Red Storm

The 2012 Southern Conference champion Georgia Southern University softball team picked up right where it left off with a dominant 5-1 victory over the St. Johns University Red Storm.

GSU coasted to an easy victory behind SoCon preseason Pitcher of the Year junior Sarah Purvis. Purvis turned the pitcher’s circle into her personal stage and put on a mesmerizing 14 strikeout performance.

Purvis was able to impose her will on the game early as she got ahead in the count on the first six batters. Her arm kept St.John’s from recording a hit until the sixth inning.

I really wanted the no hitter, but I’m glad we got the win. Our offense did great and the defense played great behind me, it was a good win,” Purvis said.

The Eagles will look to soar to consecutive wins tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. when they step on the field with the University of Akron Zips.
