The Georgia Southern University track and field team traveled to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the Blazer Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

With only part of the team making the trip, this tournament served as a baseline to see where the team stands and how they can improve before competing in the Southern Conference Indoor Championships in February.

The 400m event had a deep field with 75 participants. Sophomore Kimberly Thomas, junior Cherrelle King and senior Amber Vaughn ran for the Eagles with final times of 59.36 (22nd), 59.60 (25th) and 1:02.15 (51st) respectively.

In the long jump, sophomore Jasmine Walker finished 16th with a final jump of 5.44 meters.

Freshmen Ashleigh Rasheed , Nia Hill and Alyssa Felton were able to get some valuable experience in the tournament. Rasheed and Hill finished 19th and 28th in the triple jump. Felton ran in the 60 and 200 meter dash with final times of 8.01 and 25.69.

The Eagles will continue the indoor track season on Jan. 18 through Jan. 19 at the Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State University.
