After a big win over Little Rock on Thursday, GS defeated Troy Saturday morning to advance to the conference championship game on Sunday.

The game started out with three scoreless innings, until redshirt junior outfielder Tyler Martin made the only score of the game in the fourth, with help from a hit by freshman catcher Christian Avant and a Trojan fielding error.

Junior pitcher Tyler Owens had a near perfect game and led GS to this historic victory. He struck out four and allowed no runs in his six innings of work. Sophomore pitcher Nick Jones closed out the victory and pitched the final three innings on the mound. He struck out three and only allowed three hits.

Martin contributed two putouts, while four other Eagles, junior infielder Steven Curry, junior outfielder Mason McWhorter, infielder Jason Swan, and infielder Mason Miller all contributed one hit each. Swan also led the defense with nine putouts and two assists.

GS held a 1-2 record against the Trojans in the regular season, while this win solidifies the Eagles’ spot in Sunday’s championship game. This will be the program’s third appearance in the past four years.

In Sunday’s game, GS will play the winner of Coastal Carolina and ULM. GS went 1-2 in the regular season away series against ULM, with both losses by three or less runs. Coastal Carolina has lost to GS twice this season, with one game ending in a 9-2 GS victory.

First pitch on Sunday will be thrown at 1 p.m. It will be shown on ESPN+ and the Georgia Southern Sports Network.
