The Georgia Southern football team held the first scrimmage of Spring at Paulson Stadium Saturday morning.

Rotating through several quarterbacks including last year’s starter, rising redshirt-junior Shai Werts, GS played redshirt-senior Ivan Corbin Jr., rising sophomore Justin Tomlin, and redshirt sophomore Jaalon Frazier. GS scored seven touchdowns total and broke a few tackles to make big plays at the right moments.

Redshirt-freshman kicker Jake Karesh saw some action under last year’s starter and rising redshirt-senior kicker Tyler Bass.

The scrimmage was quite lengthy, lasting about two hours. In true GS fashion, the offense experimented with various running plays and six of the seven scores of the day were scored on the ground.

The defense, sporting blue jerseys, seemed to be focused and determined. They tallied three sacks and several three-and-outs throughout the scrimmage. Newcomer freshman DE A.J Watkins picked up a fumble recovery and fired up the team.

As Spring practice continues the next two weeks, GS will hold the official Spring game on March 9 at 11 a.m.
