Eagles look to continue win streak this weekend as they begin 3-game road trip

Following an impressive win from a heart-stopper of a game last Saturday against Arkansas-Little Rock, the Eagles hope to pick up two more wins this week as they travel to Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State.

Out of all three teams, Georgia Southern University holds the best record, being 12-5, while CCU is 7-10 and Appalachian State is 8-9.

The Eagles have proven themselves to be an offensive threat this season, averaging 78 points per game, a .434 field goal percentage per game, a .647 free throw percentage per game, and a .338 3-point percentage per game.

But Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State’s offensive statistics don’t fall too far behind GS, and some are even ahead of the Eagles’. Coastal Carolina has averaged 76 points per game, a .453 field goal percentage per game, a .723 free throw percentage per game, and a .340 3-point percentage per game.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers have offensively averaged 80 points per game, a .452 field goal percentage per game, a .634 free throw percentage per game, and a .364 3-point percentage per game.

If one takes a look at each team, he or she could also see that each team is evenly matched defensively, all three averaging four blocks per game, and the Eagles have a slightly lower average turnover rate of 12 per game, while Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina are tied, averaged at 15 per game. The Mountaineers lead in defensive rebounds with 483, Isaac Johnson contributing with 100 of those rebounds.

These teams all seem to be similar in skill statistically. Looking at the Eagles’ performances this past season, they have more than proven themselves to hold strong against hard teams, and to fight until the last minute.

Each player has shown impressive points from this season, especially from Tookie Brown, who has an average of 18.2 points per game. They do have to be on the lookout for similar players from CCU, such as Zac Cuthbetson, who averages 16.9 points per game, and Appalachian State’s Ronshad Shabazz, who averages 20.2 points per game.

As long as GS plays their game, stays aggressive and keeps their head in the game, they should have no problem securing the wins.

The Eagles will face CCU in Conway, South Carolina on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 7:30 p.m., and then App State in Boone, North Carolina on Saturday, January 13, at 3:30 p.m.
