On a perfect late afternoon for a baseball game, The Citadel ran right through Georgia Southern University en route to an 11-0 win on Friday night in the Southern Conference series opener.

Senior pitcher Austin Pritcher for the Bulldogs (18-17, 7-6 SoCon) threw a scoreless seven inning game. The right-hander struck out seven in the process while holding the Eagles (21-12, 10-6 SoCon) to only five hits.

The Citadel struck for 16 hits in the game and had four players with multi-hit games. Junior outfielder Hughston Armstrong had a sensational day at the plate going 4 for 5 with three runs, two stolen bases and a walk. Junior infielder Calvin Orth was the Eagle-killer though. Orth went 3 for 5 including two home runs with five RBI and two runs.

Junior outfielder Robbie Dodds and junior designated hitter Arthur Owens both had two-hit performances for the Eagles. The two juniors accounted for four of GSU’s five hits on Friday.

Eagles’ sophomore starting pitcher Sam Howard was knocked around for six runs on 11 hits in his six innings of work. Howard was tagged with his fourth loss on the season.

This is the third time GSU has been shutout this season, the last time being last weekend against Appalachian State University.
