Eagles end weekend with a win

In the final game of the Eagle Round Robin play, Georgia Southern University’s softball team defeated Tennessee Technological University 1-0.

The beginning of the game went by very slow with only two hits in the first three innings of the game. Then, in the fourth inning, junior infielder Kourtny Thomas hit a big single homerun that put the first point on the scoreboard for either team. After that big hit, the hitting game and the infield game, for both teams, started heating up.

In the fifth inning, a runner for TTU moved all the way around to third base and a runner for GSU made it to second base. With the score only 1-0, GSU and TTU felt the pressure in the seventh inning when the Golden Eagles were up at bat first. TTU made it to where bases were loaded but, junior pitcher Sarah Purvis ended the game with a strikeout, which was her eleventh strikeout of the game.

The Eagles will play once again this upcoming weekend at the FGCU Tournament in Fort Myers, Florida against Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Wichita State University, University of Alabama, and Florida Gulf Coast University.
