Davidson gets “Vicius†on the Eagles

A hot shooting night from behind the arc wasn’t enough to keep the Georgia Southern University women’s basketball team from falling to the Davidson College Wildcats 73-61.

Coming into the game GSU stressed valuing the possession. That message was easier said than done as the team committed 20 turnovers.

The 27 points Davidson scored off those turnovers really put pressure on the Eagles to put up points. Sophomore guard Anna Claire Knight gave a solid effort with 17 points to lead all Eagles.

Unfortunately the focal point of Davidson’s offense, senior forward Sophia Aleksandravicius, had her way in the post. She scored 19 points on 50 percent shooting from the field.

She did her damage early and helped Davidson get out to a 43-28 halftime lead. GSU would outscore Davidson 33-30 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough.

The team will have to shake off the tough loss quickly because the Appalachain State Mountaineers are coming to Hanner Fieldhouse on Monday at 7 p.m.
