The Georgia Southern Eagles played host to the University of Louisiana Warhawks on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles defeated the Warhawks 66-51.  Mike Hughes led the team with 15 points and six rebounds.

Jake Allsmiller got the Eagles going with five straight points off a pair of jumpers to open the game. Mike Hughes added 13 points in the half, including three long balls to help give the Eagles a 32-21 lead headed into halftime.

At halftime, the football team was honored in front of the fans along with the GoDaddy Bowl Trophy. Coach Lunsford, who is one of the few coaches to stay after the departure of Willie Fritz, spoke to Eagle Nation thanking them for their support in Mobile, and thanked the players for representing the University in their actions.

The Eagles got off to a slow start in the second half, scoring just four points in the first five minutes. Tookie Brown nailed a 3-pointer from the corner that sparked the scoring. Coye Simmons and Brown added a pair of layups to extend the lead.

A barrage of long balls helped the Eagles get the lead and keep it. A Devonte Boykins fast break slam-dunk was the icing on the cake for the win, and the Eagles picked up their second conference win of the season.

They will take on a pair of rivals on the road this week with matchups at Georgia State and Appalachian State. The first game of the road trip is in Atlanta on Tuesday night against the Panthers. Tip off is at 7:30pm.
