RF Aaron Mizell led Georgia Southern past Appalachian State on Saturday going 2-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. With the 3-1 win, the Eagles took the series from the Mountaineers.

Georgia Southern has not lost a weekend series this year.

After allowing one run in the first inning, the Eagles pitching staff held the Mountaineers scoreless for the rest of the game.

RHP Tripp Sheppard picked up his first win this year. Sheppard walked no one and gave up one run on six hits while striking out five batters in 5.1 innings pitched.

He started the game shaky, letting a run score on two hits in the first two batters. He settled down and got out of the inning with a double play. After that, he was almost untouchable scattering four hits across the next 4.1 innings.

The hero of last night’s game, LF Hunter Thomas, put the Eagles ahead 2-1 in the third inning with a sac fly to center field, scoring Mizell.

DH Ben Sharpe went 2-4 with an RBI single in his first ever start for the Eagles.

The Eagles move to 10-5 this season and will look to sweep the Mountaineers tomorrow at 1 p.m.
