STATESBORO — A Bulloch County resident was diagnosed with COVID-19 Friday after testing positive for the virus, according to a Facebook post by Mayor Jonathan McCollar.

McCollar announced the diagnosis Saturday morning. The Georgia Department of Public Health has launched an investigation into the details of the case, said McCollar.

At press time, the case has not appeared on the Georgia DPH’s Daily Status Report, updated twice daily to show confirmed cases of COVID-19 per county. However, McCollar said it is unlikely the Bulloch County case will appear on the report until Monday.

“This notice received from DPH should not be a surprise as we all knew it was here, it has just been confirmed. This is a good time to review CDC guidelines on how you can protect yourself, your family, and your business,” McCollar said in the post.

McCollar said there is no need to panic, asking residents not to rush out and stock up on supplies they already have.
