A new Zaxby’s location is planned for the corner of Georgia Avenue and Chandler Road across from Centennial Place in the parking lot and Wings Cafe area.

The application for the permit for the new restaurant was filed on March 3 but has not yet been approved, Cindy Steinmann, development project manager for the city of Statesboro, said.

“They have not been permitted yet. We received the application and some plans and those are going through to get approved,” Steinmann said.

At this point there is not a set opening date. Currently, Zaxby’s has submitted a site map and filed for a building permit which has to be approved before moving further in the process.

The site plan map and building plans both have to be submitted and go through a review process within the staff. Staff members will review and comment on the plans and then submit them back to the project manager to send to the company.

Once the permit process is complete, a business license is issued as well as a certificate of occupancy, Steinmann said.

The land Zaxby’s plans to build on is currently under the ownership of a Christine Smallwood, meaning Zaxby’s will have to purchase the land before officially breaking ground.

A representative for Zaxby’s could not be reached by press time.
