Georgia Southern University men’s soccer team opened up the 2013 campaign against Winthrop University with an undesirable result as they were defeated by a score of 2-0.

The GSU defense held strong in the first half as both teams were deadlocked after 45 minutes of play.

Winthrop was able to find the back of the net a minute into the second half as substitute  senior midfielder Adriano Negri came on to put Winthrop up 1-0.

Negri found the back of the net again in the 56^th minute after an assist from sophomore defender Kyle Kennedy to put their team ahead 2-0.

GSU had a scoring opportunity in the 72^nd minute as sophomore defender Reed Norton stepped up to take a penalty kick. However, he was unsuccessful and the score remained 2-0.

The Eagles look to bounce back as they take on Gardner-Webb University on Sunday.
